About
The UNAM Probability Group at Ciudad Universitaria is made up of academics and students from the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Sciences, the Department of Probability and Statistics of the Institute for Research in Applied Mathematics and Systems (IIMAS), and the Institute of Mathematics.
These three units jointly organize the Probability and Stochastic Processes Seminar, whose venue rotates among them throughout the semester. In addition to the seminar, we maintain research collaborations. In the Research section, we describe some of our lines of work.
Members of the Probability Group teach in the undergraduate programs of the Faculty of Sciences (Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, among others), in the Data Science undergraduate program based at IIMAS, and in the Graduate Program in Mathematical Sciences at UNAM. We also supervise theses at all levels. In the Student Information section, you can find more details about these programs.
Together with other national institutions, we are continuously involved in the organization of national conferences, such as the Symposium on Probability and Stochastic Processes; summer schools, such as the Escuelas de Probabilidad y Procesos Estocásticos and the Escuela Conjunta de Dinámica, Combinatoria y Probabilidad; and also international workshops as part of the projects of the CIMAT–UNAM–Warwick–Bath (CUWB) network.
We value being part of scientific societies such as the Mexican Mathematical Society, the Latin American Society of Probability and Mathematical Statistics (SLAPEM), the Bernoulli Society, and the Institute for Mathematical Statistics, and participating in events sponsored by them. The women in the group are part of the network of Latin American women working in research in the areas of probability and statistics, Aleatorias y Normales.
